Your Partner in Capital Campaign Management

Nonprofit capital campaign consulting services grounded in brand clarity, strategic preparation, and donor trust

We help nonprofits plan and lead capital campaigns grounded in brand clarity, intentional strategy, and early relationship-building. Our approach ensures your campaign is not just about reaching a goal, but strengthening donor trust, building lasting momentum, and positioning your organization for sustainable fundraising long after the campaign ends.

When the Idea of a Capital Campaign Starts to Surface

Thinking about a capital campaign can feel like staring up a mountain.

  • How do we know if a capital campaign can meet our need(s)?
  • How do we know we’re ready?
  • Can we actually raise millions of dollars?
  • Where do we even start?
  • How much time, energy, and expertise will this require?

It’s normal to feel overwhelmed, even before a decision is even made. If you want to start thinking through these questions carefully, we’ve created resources to help you explore capital campaign readiness, including guides on assessing organizational capacity, early brand considerations, and what to expect in a first campaign.

Brand-Led, Relationship-Based Capital Campaign Management

Capital campaigns are complex, high-stakes endeavors, and the most successful campaigns are built on preparation, clarity, and relationships.

Our approach is brand-led and relationship-based, and means we prioritize 1:1 relationship building by intentionally sharing your organization’s story, mission, and values at every stage.

By integrating brand strategy early and consistently, we help you:

  • Engage donors meaningfully from the start
  • Build momentum before the first ask is made
  • Strengthen your organization’s credibility and trust

Unlike other consultants, we don’t treat branding as an afterthought, it is central to every decision. We also use your case statement as a tool to test messaging and build relationships simultaneously: committee input and donor feedback inform your story while creating early engagement that strengthens your campaign before the first ask.

The outcome is a campaign where leadership, staff, and donors feel confident, prepared, and connected, not scrambling or second-guessing at critical moments.

How We Work

Our Capital Campaign Management Approach

Once your readiness study is complete, your campaign is ready to launch with confidence. We manage the entire capital campaign, from pre-campaign planning through the silent phase and into the public phase, ensuring every conversation and ask is strategic and aligned with your brand.

The Pre-Campaign Phase

This is where relationships deepen and expand.
Using insights from the readiness study, we:

  • Refine and confirm the campaign goal
  • Strengthen campaign messaging and case statement
  • Recruit and train campaign committees
  • Expand cultivation among lead prospects
Address any brand or infrastructure gaps identified in the study
  • Develop a detailed campaign plan and timeline

This phase is intentional and measured. We believe in a long runway. When the silent phase begins, it should feel prepared, not rushed.

Timeline: Approximately 11 months

The Silent Phase

With groundwork in place, we begin structured, one-on-one solicitation with leadership and major donors. Because relationships have already been strengthened, invitations are clear and confident, so momentum can build early and often.

Timeline: Approximately 4 – 10 months

The Public Phase

After 60-70% of the goal is secured, the campaign opens more broadly to the community. At this stage, visibility increases and energy rises. And because leadership gifts are already committed, the campaign moves forward from strength, not uncertainty.

Timeline: Approximately 3 – 6 months

Why doesn’t BrandRaise charge based on a percentage of funds raised?
We follow the AFP Code of Ethics, which prohibits percentage-based compensation. Our fees are structured to prioritize ethical practice, transparency, and long-term sustainability.
How do consulting fees typically work for capital campaigns?
For capital campaigns, fundraising consulting fees are often included in the overall campaign goal. In previous projects, organizations have taken out loans to cover our services, with the understanding that the loan will be repaid through donations within 12-16 months. Many local banks are willing to collaborate with nonprofit organizations on this approach.
What happens if the capital campaign goal is reached early?
If the goal is met before the contract ends, the contract concludes early and no further payments are required.
What if the contract ends and the capital campaign goal hasn’t been reached?
Many organizations feel confident continuing on their own with the systems, tools, and strategies developed during the project. Our goal is to leave you better equipped for the long term.
Is there flexibility if circumstances change?
Yes. If unexpected external factors arise, we work collaboratively to find a responsible and appropriate path forward.
Do you offer contract extensions for the capital campaign?
We don’t, and here’s why that’s actually a good thing. From the start, we plan with intention so that everything you need is built into the campaign readiness study and capital campaign contracts. By the time you’ve moved through the full process (usually 18 to 24 months), the skills, confidence, and momentum aren’t just developed, they’re tested and established. The tools live inside your organization now, and you’re ready to carry it forward on your own.

That said, we’re always in your corner. If you ever want to call and talk through an idea or a challenge down the road, we’re there for that at no cost. That’s just part of how we work.

Can we bypass the readiness study and move directly into a campaign, or shorten the timeline?
No. Each stage of the readiness process serves a specific purpose, and rushing it can compromise outcomes. The study protects your organization from launching a campaign before the foundation is in place.
Why is momentum important after a readiness study?
Campaigns thrive on urgency and momentum. Moving quickly after a readiness study ensures participants stay engaged and motivated, because they’re eager to see the progress they were introduced to during the study.
How much time can we wait between a Campaign Readiness Study and a capital campaign?

We encourage organizations to enter a readiness study with the intention to move into a capital or major fundraising campaign within a reasonable window of time. While every organization’s circumstances are different, waiting too long can reduce momentum, dilute leadership alignment, and make insights from the study less actionable.

The readiness study is designed to inform near-term decisions and next steps. If significant delays are anticipated due to capacity, leadership transitions, or external factors, it’s important to name that upfront so we can assess whether the timing is right to proceed with the study.

Who from our organization should be involved in a capital campaign?

Capital campaigns involve multiple committees and roles to ensure the campaign runs smoothly and meets its goals. At a minimum, the Executive Director and a support staff member handle day-to-day administration and meet weekly to manage the campaign.

Board members are typically engaged through campaign committees, while additional team members participate on committees as capacity allows. This structure ensures leadership oversight, committee guidance, and operational support are all aligned, while respecting each participant’s availability.

What situations do capital campaigns solve for?
Capital campaigns are the right move when your organization faces a big, one-time need that goes beyond your annual budget, like buying a building instead of continuing to rent, funding a major renovation, expanding to meet growing demand, retiring significant debt, or building an endowment. If the investment is large, lasting, and central to your mission, a capital campaign is likely your path forward.
What does the workload look like for an organization versus what BrandRaise does?

Think of it as a true partnership. We’re in the process together every step of the way. BrandRaise handles the heavy lifting: creating the content, crafting the narrative, doing the writing, and supporting the administration of the campaign. Your role is to bring the expertise, insight, and heart behind your mission. We take it from there and shape it into something compelling.

Every campaign is customized to your organization. We follow a proven framework, but we adapt it to fit your people, your community, and your goals. Because no two nonprofits are the same, and your campaign shouldn’t feel like one either.

Do we need to hire additional consultants along with you to help with the capital campaign management process?

Nope, you’re covered. Everything you need, from the campaign readiness study through the full capital campaign, is included in your contracts. No need to bring in additional consultants along the way. We walk with you through the entire process so you always know who to turn to and nothing falls through the cracks.

Do you manage endowment campaigns?
Yes! Endowment campaigns are something we love being a part of. If you have a project in mind, we’d love to hear about it. Reach out and let’s start the conversation.
